The Toronto Maple Leafs checked in at No. 184 on FanSided’s Fandom 250 rankings, while the Toronto Raptors checked in at No. 187. Before we share our distaste for the rankings, you might be wondering what Fandom 250 is all about.
Fandom 250 ranks the top fan bases from around the world http://www.mapleleafsjerseystore.com/zach-hyman-jersey-c-5.html, selecting from sports, music, entertainment, celebrities and pop culture. Sounds like something the Maple Leafs and Raptors would rank high in, right?
Well, apparently not.
I guess FanSided forgot how electric the atmosphere can be outside the Air Canada Centre where Maple Leafs Square, or Jurassic Park either name works here , is
Outside of the ACC is one thing, but inside the walls on 40 Bay Street is one of the best big game atmospheres in sports. The Toronto crowd received a massive compliment from LeBron James during last years Eastern Conference Finals when he had this to say about the Raptors faithful.
Does this look like a fan base that should rank No. 187 on FanSided’s Fandom 250 rankings? I didn’t think so either.
You could argue that the Raptors are still a young franchise http://www.mapleleafsjerseystore.com/tyler-bozak-jersey-c-1.html, but the Leafs are in their 100th season and they easily have one of the biggest, if not the biggest, fan bases in the NHL. How they rank behind the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins is beyond me.
The competition is stiff when you consider the criteria for these rankings http://www.mapleleafsjerseystore.com/nazem-kadri-jersey-c-6.html, but to have the Penguins over 100 spots ahead of the Leafs at No. 70 is absurd. I get the whole “hockey fans hate the Leafs” narrative, but I think the Leafs’ fan base is much larger than those who actually hate the team.
I suppose when Toronto teams are going up against the likes of celebrities and American fan bases in these rankings we should expect to be somewhat overlooked. However, I don’t think either team deserves to be overlooked this much! Let’s not bring up the Toronto Blue Jays either. They didn’t even make the rankings. I know, I know, I don’t get either.
